First-annual Durham Region Film Festival to take place in September 2015
WHITBY, ON –Today the Durham Region Film Commission announced the launch of the first-annual Durham Region Film Festival, which will take place Sept. 25 to 27 at two exciting locations in Durham—the Regent Theatre in Oshawa, and Docville Wild West Movie Set in Clarington.
The inaugural festival, with programming provided by ReelWorld Film Festival, aims to bring the magic of film—on-screen and off—to local residents and visitors. The three-day event will feature short- and feature-film screenings, family activities, movie-making demos, a student film competition, production workshops, and question and answer sessions with film talent. Tickets for screenings and events will be available for sale at beginning Aug. 4.
“The announcement of this inaugural film festival gives us an opportunity to shine the spotlight on Durham Region as we continue to build partnerships to bring more productions to Durham,” said Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer.
A significant increase of activity within the province has impacted television and film production as a growing industry in Durham Region. In 2014, the region attracted $22 million in productions, up from $20 million in 2012.
“For many years, Durham Region has provided the settings and landmarks for successful television and film productions,” said Kathy Weiss, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “Our attraction of these productions is a major contributor to our local economy.”

In conjunction with Bell's Let's Talk - SWEEPING FORWARD will be presented January 31, 2015!

Bell Let's Talk is a wide-reaching, multi-year program designed to break the silence around mental illness and support mental health all across Canada.
One of the biggest hurdles for anyone suffering from mental illness is overcoming the stigma. It is the number one reason why two-thirds of those living with a mental illness do not seek help.
I have personally experienced the impact of mental illness and understand how important it is to get people talking about it at home, school, and at their workplace.

Bill Wexler: Thanks Patricia for the heads up on this showing for a fine and enjoyable movie. Great photography, acting and story line. The one thing we did notice was the make-up was superb, not over done. All the actors and actresses fit the part they were playing to a tee. I really would not like to single anyone out as they all were very good. All positive. Good luck with this film and keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing another film by you.
Johanne Demers: 'Sweeping Forward' is a very well made movie. And really helps put the message out there.
